Weekend Sports Preview

The FA Cup final may not take place until the 22nd of May next year, but the road to Wembley has already begun for Portland United, who beat Sturminster Newton at Grove Corner a couple of weeks ago, placing the Blues into the hat for the Preliminary Round Draw, which paired them with Moneyfields. So on Saturday Portland must cross the causeway, head up the A31 if it’s back open, and head to Portsmouth to lock horns with The Planemakers.

Weymouth drew a home tie against Shepton Mallett while Dorchester play Winchester City at the Avenue Stadium.

Bridport play Honiton at St. Mary’s in a Southwest Peninsular League East fixture.

Sunday Women’s Football:

Weymouth vs Wimborne Town Res. Frome Town vs Ridgeway.

Local Dorset Cricket League Fixtures:

Bere Regis vs Poole Town. Dorchester vs Sherborne. Wimborne vs Martinstown. Blandford vs Wimborne 2nd XI. Poole Town 2nd XI vs Weymouth. Portland Red Triangle vs Corfe Mullen. Shillingstone vs Cerne Valley. Symene Sports vs Beaminster. Charlton Down vs Bere Regis 2nd XI. Puddletown vs Cattistock & Swanage 2nd XI vs Abbotsbury.

The RFU have delayed the start of the competitive community game season until week commencing Monday 21 September with consideration of player welfare due to pitches being hard, uneven and unfit for play following the long dry summer.
