This morning at 4.21am the Service was alerted to a fire in an industrial unit on Dreadnought Trading Estate, Bridport. Initially crews from the town responded to this incident but they quickly requested support and there are currently 15 fire engines and support vehicles (approx. 75 firefighters) dealing with this incident. Fire crews from both Dorset & Wiltshire FRS and colleagues from Devon and Somerset FRS are using breathing apparatus and main lines to extinguish the fire, two specialist water carriers have also been requested.
Area Manager Seth Why, who is attending at this incident, said: “Firefighters are working hard to reduce the fire spread and making good progress. We are working with on-site representatives and colleagues from Dorset Police to manage the site and surrounding roads.”
The large smoke plume in the area has subsided but we still advise local residents to keep windows and doors closed.
