Brownsea Island is a haven for bird enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. Our guided walks, led by an expert Dorset Wildlife Trust ranger, take you through the island’s beautiful wetlands. Brownsea Lagoon is one of the best birdwatching sites in England. The lagoon’s shallow, nutrient-rich waters draw in thousands of birds annually, creating an ever-changing avian spectacle.

7:00 pm. Open meeting will this year feature speakers about social prescribers and the Access Wellbeing organisation. These groups help local people and could help you or those you work with. Social prescribers work with people of every age, who may be lonely or isolated, live with a long term condition or have complex social needs. Access Wellbeing again helps anyone over 18, providing early help to prevent concerns escalating whether it be finances, work or housing. Everyone welcome at the Dorford Centre on 30th September.

7pm for 7:30pm start. The Lions Club of Dorchester & District proudly present a CASH & PRIZE Bingo evening. There is no entry fee – you and your friends can buy books and cards on the night to take part in what promises to be a fun occasion There is a top prize of £100, and any profits raised will be donated by the Lions to charitable causes.

Novices and experts are all welcome to come and learn more about the role that fungi play in the ecosystem and how important they are on a global scale.

She Belongs Here, Find Your People is a free evening event for women in Dorchester on Saturday 3rd October at The Snug at Vivo Lounge. Think speed dating, but for finding your people not your partner. 30 women split into two teams. One team stays put. One team rotates every 5 minutes.

The film presents a clear, measured overview of how the climate and nature crisis is affecting everyday life in Britain, and what the evidence says about risks and responses. The purpose of the Briefing is to support informed democratic discussion and ensure that communities share understanding of the scale and urgency of the challenge.

The coffee, cake and stalls event has become a popular fundraiser for the Dorchester Committee of the Children’s Society. Entry is free, with coffee and delicious homemade cake for £3.00. All are welcome to the annual musical meditation for All Souls at St Peter’s Church Dorchester. This is an opportunity to remember friends and loved ones who have died. Three poignant musical works — John Tavener’s ‘Song for Athene’, Vaughan Williams’s ‘The Lark Ascending’ (performed on violin and organ) and Morten Lauridsen’s ‘Lux aeterna’ — are framed by words of scripture and poetry. Playing on a Robin Jennings Flemish Reproduction harpsichord, Royal College of Music scholar Markus Sadler performs Bach’s Goldberg Variations in the evocative, candlelit setting of St Peter’s Church Dorchester.
