At approximately 4:35pm today (Thursday) two pumps from Dorchester and one pump from Weymouth were called to reports of a large fire in the Maiden Newton area.
Upon arrival the crews found a caravan well alight involving two 7 kilo butane cylinders with a further cylinder nearby but uninvolved.
Crews quickly got to work fighting the fire and implementing a ground monitor on the cylinders to maintain a safe working distance.
Once the fire was out and crews established that the cylinders were sufficiently cool enough to be safe, we made the general area safe to hand back to the landowner and await the arrival of Dorchester Police and Southern Electric Board.
