Hanna Baxter, 18, has received a national award in recognition of her work with young people in care.
The Diana Awards are presented to young people aged between 9 and 25 years who are selflessly creating and achieving social change, in memory of Diana, Princess of Wales.
Hannah, who has spent time in care, dedicates her time to improving the conditions of young people in care. Hanna has contributed to a number of key projects in Dorset which help provide information and advice to young people in care and has facilitated training sessions for teachers, potential foster carers and social workers.
Hannah said, “I am thrilled to be a Diana Award holder. I hope that this inspires even more young people to step up and have their voice heard about things that are important to them. Thank you to everyone who has helped me achieve so much!”
Hannah was nominated for the award by Participation People, an organisation that delivers youth engagement programs in partnership with Dorset Council.
Ann Haigh, Youth Voice and Insight Officer at Participation People said, “Hanna has been a star – she is passionate about young people in care having a voice and being heard and gives up a lot of her own time to train and inspire decision makers. We’re delighted her hard work has been recognised.”
Cllr Andrew Parry said, “Hannah is a role model for young people in care and the professionals supporting them. Her contribution to the delivery and improvement of the service is invaluable and we very grateful for her ongoing involvement and support. She is making a real difference to the lives of children in care.”
