Weldmar Hospicecare’s popular Christmas ‘Treecycle’ project is back, where anyone with a real Christmas tree can have it collected and disposed of by the charity in return for a donation.
The traditional time to take down the Christmas tree is Twelfth Night, which falls this Sunday, 5th January.
Now in its third year, collections have been expanded to more towns in Dorset – Weymouth, Portland, Dorchester, Bridport, Beaminster, Sherborne, Shaftesbury, Gillingham, and Blandford, and will take place between 9th and 11th January.
Abi Shirley, Major Events Fundraiser, said, “The project has proved to be a great success over the past two years and we are looking forward to expanding the collections throughout Dorset this month. We hope that by providing this service, it will make the festive clear-up easier for families and businesses, as well as raising vital funds for Weldmar Hospicecare.”
The project is being manned by staff from the organisation, as well as a team of volunteers. The trees will all be brought back to Weldmar’s Inpatient Unit in Dorchester for chipping.
Anyone with a real Christmas tree at their home or workplace can register for a collection and make a donation on the Weldmar Hospicecare website, or call the fundraising office on 01305 261800.
Trees must be left ready for collection at the front of the property during the above dates, and be clear of all decorations.
All monies raised by the project will go towards the end of life care that Weldmar provides in Dorset, including community nursing, at the Inpatient Unit, Day Services across the county, and family support.
