Dorchester’s BID, Chamber for Business and Town Council have teamed up with Dorset Council to assist a safe return to the High Street, as more shops reopen for business on 15th June. The efforts will be supported by a Government fund administered by Dorset Council to support town centres across Dorset.
`Team Dorch’ have formed to promote Dorchester as a convenient and safe place to shop. We are appealing to residents of Dorchester and the surrounding area to support local businesses and spend locally to boost the economy and save businesses.
Cllr Richard Biggs, Mayor of Dorchester, says, “Good townspeople please take the opportunity to visit the town centre and support the shops and businesses who depend on you. Much effort has been made to make it as safe and as pleasant as possible. I know I can depend on you to visit, let’s start the recovery responsibly together”
Phil Gordon, Project Director, Dorchester BID, added “A lot of us have had no option but to switch some of our buying allegiance to online. Its felt pretty soleless sometimes and I’ve really missed the human interaction, professional advice and most importantly the friendly smile of our caring and hard-working local businesses. Now is the time to help protect the future of our town’s high street and get spending in our Dorchester shops, I can wait!”
This has been a very trying time for everyone, and survival of your local high street with its unique mix of independent traders and high street brands should be high on everyone’s list. Let’s build on the positive community spirit that the crisis has created and pull together to support Dorchester by buying local goods and services, or as we are saying ‘Shop Local, Shop Safe . Shop Dorch’.”
