Controversial planning applications are being decided

Three controversial planning applications are being decided today, Thursday.

An online committee will vote on an application to demolish a Weymouth church and replace it with 18 affordable flats. Other applications being debated include knocking down a bungalow in East Street, Beaminster to build five new houses while the Creek caravan park at Ringstead wants to extend its season to 11 months of the year. Each of the applications has received letters for and against.

The afternoon online meeting has been set aside for the proposal to demolish St Nicholas Church in Buxton Road, which is no longer used, and replace it with a block of 18 flats. Opponents say the building is too big and will overlook neighbouring homes – those in favour say the homes are much-needed.
