Pictures: Steve Wright in Weymouth

Fellow broadcasters, and hundreds of fans, have been paying tribute to Steve Wright who has died at the age of 69 and who, for 23 years, presented ‘Steve Wright in the Afternoon’ on BBC Radio 2, together with ‘Sunday Love Songs’, a pre-recorded Valentines Day special having been broadcast just last Sunday.

No doubt, one way or another, we will all have our memories of Steve – including, for example, the often incredulous ‘factoids’ and hilarious characters he featured on his afternoon show like Mr Angry, Elvis is in the Building and the Old Woman, to name a few. Then there was that classic phrase, “Oi, Wrighty, got any Quo”. We will all remember much more about Steve Wright.

Some of the many tributes can be seen here: www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/entertainment-arts-68289260

Our reporter Idris Martin, a prolific photographer, has sent in these photos of Steve presenting the Radio 1 Roadshow from Weymouth Beach in 1994.

To many, a broadcasting legend has left us today, but with very fond memories.
