Jill Burns RFU Division 3 County Women’s Rugby Final Match Report.
Two weeks ago, the Dorset & Wilts County Women’s team were eliminated from the National competition after going down by 26 points to 22 against Leicestershire at Coalville Rugby Club in the semifinal.
However, it was later discovered that the Midlands side had fielded two ineligible players in their squad. In the true spirit of the game, Leicestershire withdrew, leaving the Twin Counties to face Sussex at the Allianz Stadium, Twickenham, on Sunday in the final.

There was little between the two teams as they traded score for score, Dorset & Wilts were first out of the blocks with a converted try, then Sussex replied also with a try that they duly converted to level.
The Twin Counties took the lead again with a try that went unconverted to make the score 12 points to 7 at the break.
Sussex then crossed to touch down for their second try to level the scores again.
A penalty kick from Dorset & Wilts put them into a narrow 3-point lead, but with the clock ticking down towards full time and with the Twin Counties under constant pressure defending their own goal line, they conceded another penalty.
A loose tongue was picked up, and the referee marched them 10 meters back towards their own in-goal.
Sussex elected to go for the posts and tied the scores yet again at 15 points all, a scoreline that lasted until the final whistle leaving the result to be decided by the best of 6 penalties, and Dorset & Wilts converted 2 while Sussex failed to trouble the scoreboard operator again, so it’s the Twin Counties who travel back to the West Country with the victor’s plaque and deservedly so after being eliminated from the competition by Sussex last year in the pool stage.
