Weekend Sports Preview

South Dorset’s premier sporting event takes place on Sunday.

The Weymouth 70.3 Iron Man takes place over the weekend with the international event starting at 7:15 am on Sunday morning on Preston Beach opposite the Sea Life Centre with a 1.9 KM swim, then the athletes go into transition and back out to start start their second discipline, a 90.8 KM bike ride before returning to transition and setting out on a 21.3 KM run with the event finishing in front of the Pavilion Theatre.

Over 2700 competitors from all four corners of the globe have signed up for Sunday’s event.

Following their 2 Southern Premier League draws since the appointment of new manager Steve Claridge Weymouth Football Club’s Senior men’s squad have a weekend off due to the Terras early elimination from this season’s FA Cup competition at the hands of Tadley, however Dorchester must travel into Devon to play Brixham in the second preliminary round of the national competition.

In the Wessex Permier League Portland United visit Hythe & Dibden while Bridport host Oakhampton at St. Mary’s for a Southwest Peninsular League East fixture.

On Sunday the Terras’ women’s team entertain Feniton women at the Bob Lucas Stadium and Bridport Ladies play Nailsea Ladies at St. Mary’s with both matches kicking off at 2:00 pm.

Tribute Ale Rugby:

In the Southern Counties Division Swanage & Wareham host Melksham at Bestwall Park while in the Dorset & Wilts Division Weymouth & Portland head to Coburg Road to lock horns with Dorchester, Bridport visit East Dorset Dockers, the Swan’s second team play Wimborne second team away and Puddletown welcome Lytchett Minster to Greenfields.
