Weymouth, Dorchester and Portland United football teams will all compete in the Southern League Division One next season.
Dorchester were relegated from the Southern Premier League last weekend and Weymouth’s two nil away defeat at Berkhamstead on Saturday also condemned the Terras to division one football, the lowest tier of Non League football in most of the Weymouth’s fan’s living memories.
However, Portland United’s play-off victory at Grove Corner against Laverstock & Ford by way of a penalty shoot-out after neither side had managed to break the deadlock following 120 minutes of football has guaranteed soccer fans six local derbys next season.
The Blues goalkeeper Toby Stainer-Reid saved Laverstock’s third spot kick and as all the Portland penalty takers managed to place the ball into the back of the visitor’s net the entire team erupted and mobbed Josh Camp after he sent the Laverstock keeper the wrong way lashing the ball into the goal sparking some home fans to perform cartwheels on the pitch.
Bridport secured the Southwest Peninsular League East runners up spot beating Devon visitors Newton Abbot Spurs by four goals to three.
Solomon Ayunga and Samuel Fisher both netting two goals each for the Bees.
