Skyglow Festival drinks licence agreed

by Trevor Bevins, Local Democracy Reporter.

A drinks licence for the Skyglow Festival, planned for the Dorchester Showground later in the year has been agreed.

A public hearing had been scheduled for Tuesday after concerns about some of the proposals were raised by a joint public authority Safety Committee.

But on Tuesday afternoon the three councillors sitting on the licensing panel were told that the concerns had been ironed out to the committee’s satisfaction and with no objections there was no longer a need for a hearing.

The Dorchester event is to be held on July 3rd to the 5th, with plans for live music up until 9.45pm.

The origanisers had asked to be able to sell alcohol on the site between 4 and 9.30pm on the Friday, noon to 9.30pm on Saturday and noon to 7.30pm on the Sunday. In addition to music and other entertainment the event is also advertising an appearance by hot air balloons, subject to weather conditions.

The county’s Safety Advisory Group, made up of public organisations including emergency services, had initially said they wanted more details before being convinced that the licensing conditions can be met by organisers, Nationwide Festivals.

A licensing team member told the panel on Tuesday that negotiations had led to the Safety Advisory Group now being reassured over the points they had raised.
