Weekend Sports Report

Two local football clubs have recently issued press releases:

Dorchester Town Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Freddie Beale and Lewis Toms.

A talented hometown winger, Freddie was part of AFC Bournemouth’s academy for several years before joining Eastleigh, where he has progressed through their academy over the past three seasons.

Now the latest Magpies summer signing for boss Glenn Howes ahead of the upcoming 2026/27 season, the teenage forward has also gained valuable first team experience with Portland United and, more recently, Brockenhurst, where during an impressive campaign he scored 15 goals and scooped the Supporters’ Player of the Season award.

Lewis, having impressed while progressing from our U18s and U23s to the senior squad, made his Southern League debut at just 16 years old in the 2022/23 season under boss Glenn Howes. After gaining valuable first team experience with Portland United, Winchester City and Brockenhurst over the past couple of seasons, Lewis is now back at The Avenue to become our seventh new summer signing.

Weymouth Football Club Press Release.

Weymouth Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Lewis Brown.

Lewis joins the Terras having most recently been with Shaftesbury, adding further depth and quality to Jamie Wells’ squad ahead of the new season.

A product of the AFC Bournemouth academy, Lewis has also gained valuable senior experience with Wimborne Town, AFC Totton, Truro City, Salisbury, and Havant & Waterlooville before his time at Shaftesbury.

Former Bridport wideman Harley Brook has signed for Portland United ahead of the 2026/27 season.

FA Cup:

Extra preliminary round. Portland United vs Sturminster Newton. Saturday, the 8th of August.

Preliminary Round. Weymouth vs Shepton Mallett or Bashley. Dorchester vs Winchester City. ties to be played on Saturday, August the 22 nd.

Weymouth vs Melksham. Larkhall Athletic vs Dorchester. Ties to be played on Saturday, August 29th.

Dorchest beat Broadstone by 72 runs. Poole Town beat Martinstown by 70 runs. Sherborne beat Bere Regis by 8 wickets. Blandford beat Christchurch by 9 wickets. Wimborne 2nd 11beat Weymouth by 99 runs. Cerne Valley beat Beaminster by 75 runs. Dorchester 2nd 11 beat Portland Red Triangle by 2 wickets. Charlton Down beat Sherborne 2nd 11 by 6 wickets. Abbotsbury beat Cattistock by 101 runs & Puddletown beat Swanage 2nd 11 by 68 runs.
