Large fire breaks out in Weymouth

Idris Martin reporting.

A large fire has broken out in Weymouth this afternoon (Sunday) in what is believed to be an electrical sub-station adjacent to the Front Skatepark on Preston Beach Road.

It is not yet clear if any electrical power supplies to surrounding premises have been affected, bearing in mind that the Sea Life Centre is sited 50 meters behind the sub station.

A spokesperson for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Firefighters from Weymouth, Dorchester (two fire engines) and Bere Regis are currently dealing with a fire near Weymouth skatepark, Greenhill, Weymouth.

“Crews were called at 3.45pm to reports of a fire which is affecting electrical infrastructure and had spread to nearby trees and bushes. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are using two hose reels and a main line to extinguish the fire. Colleagues from Dorset Police have closed the road.
