Plans for a new home in the garden of an existing property in Dorchester have been agreed.
Neighbours and ward councillor Les Fry objected to the plans for the extra home in the grounds of 3 Maiden Castle Road claiming it would add to traffic problems, would be an overdevelopment of the site, was out of character, and could cause a loss of privacy for those living on adjoining plots.
But fellow Dorchester councillor Rory Major argued at Tuesday’s area planning committee that the road had good visibility and many other properties nearby had access directly onto it, without problems. He said that using the excess garden space to provide a new home would be a welcome addition to the town.
Dorchester town council had raised no objection as had the Dorset Council highways team.
The committee unanimously approved the outline planning consent and the access arrangements – the details of the home to be built there will now have to be submitted for reserved matters agreement.
