Pathways to Wellbeing is the subject of the Annual Open Meeting to be held by Dorchester Poverty Action at the Dorford Centre, Dorchester, on 30th September at 7pm.
Everyone needs support at various points of their life and often it is knowing where to turn. DPA’s annual Open meeting will this year feature speakers about social prescribers and the Access Wellbeing organisation. These groups help local people and could help YOU or those you work with.
What does a social prescriber do at your local GP surgery and who are Access Wellbeing, who have just opened on High East St in Dorchester? Both provide services to help our well-being.
Social prescribers work with people of every age, who may be lonely or isolated, live with a long term condition or have complex social needs. They can give you time, which is more difficult in a busy GP practice. Time is a precious commodity which can help many issues.
Access Wellbeing again helps anyone over 18, providing early help to prevent concerns escalating whether it be finances, work or housing.
Dorchester Poverty Action (DPA) works closely with these and many other referring organisations. Over the last year DPA has been busy helping local people living in DT1 and DT2 with their wellbeing through grants for nursery equipment, washing machines for young families or with car repairs, so someone can get to work.
£76,000 was distributed in grants over the year. This is a 28% increase in individual grants over the last year and a 66% increase over the last 5 years. Without the very generous donations from local people, churches and businesses none of this would be possible.
