Emergency services attended and very sadly the driver – a man aged in his 60s from the Bridport area – was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been informed.

Road closures were put in place as emergency services responded to the incident and these were lifted shortly after 9pm.

Inspector Craig Tatton, of the Roads Policing Team, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the man who very sadly died and we are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this incident.

“I would urge any witnesses to the collision – or the manner of driving of the vehicle involved prior to it – to please contact us.

“I would also like to hear from any motorists who may have captured relevant dashcam footage.

“Finally, I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding while the road closures were in place.”
