Countdown to Weymouth 70.3 Ironman

Preparations for Ironman 70.3 2024, on 15th September, are underway already.

The organisers of the international event taking place on Sunday are already constructing their facilities at the Lodmoor Country Car Park, which is close to the start line on Preston Beach.

If past events are to go by, it takes at least 6 days to get the check-in, bike maintenance and security facilities ready to start the race on Sunday morning.

The annual triathlon race, considered the ultimate one-day test of endurance, comprises three parts – a 1.2-mile swim in Weymouth Bay, a 56-mile cycle around Dorset, and a 13.1-mile run around Weymouth with 2,800 competitors from all four corners of the globe participating.

Last year, the swimming was cancelled at short notice due to the threat of lightning strikes in the area.

You can find information about travel advice and road closures, etc, on Dorset Council’s website here: dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/news/travel-advice-for-ironman-70-3-weymouth-sunday-15-september-2024 and the official IronMan 70.3 website is here: ironman.com/im703-weymouth
