Changes to a Weymouth town vacant shopfront are being requested by the Globalls company which is due to open in the town centre by the end of the year.
The business will offer ultra-violet glow in the dark games of mini golf with a bar area.
Its first outlet was in Brighton with good ratings on social media for “family fun, date nights, and group outings.”
#The Weymouth business is expected to employ about ten full and part-time staff.
Globalls wants to put up new signs on the St Thomas Street premises, the former Iceland store which closed in September 2021 after 15 years in the town.
The building is Grade 2 listed and dates from the early 18th century although was updated in the early 19th century and has a 20th century shop front.
Globalls is asking for an illuminated horizontal fascia sign (0.85 m x 12.2 m x 0.1m) above the main windows, made of composite aluminium, with letters cut from marine grade steel with acrylic face. The letters will be in pink, orange, yellow, red, green and blue.
The company also plans 2.4 by 1.2metre vinyl signs on the windows.
In an application to Dorset Council, which remains open for public comment until October 22, the company claim: “The proposed signage aims to enhance the commercial viability of the property … The signage will ensure that the historical and architectural integrity of the building is maintained and does not obstruct the view of any of the architectural details. The proposed works will not involve any irreversible alterations to the structure or materials thus ensuring its historic fabric remains intact.”
The application, which has yet to receive any comments, can be found on the Dorset Council website using the reference P/ADV/2025/05730 68 St Thomas Street Weymouth DT4 8EL, also as a Listed Building Consent application P/LBC/2025/05794
