ALMOST 200 solar panels will be added to the roofs of the Weymouth Library And Learning Centre in Great George Street.
Spread across around 390 square metres of the pitched and flat roofs of the building the 195 panels should be capable of producing 90KW of power – reducing the building’s energy bills.
The planning application to Dorset Council says the panels will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by around 18,900 kg of CO2e per annum.
Although in a conservation area the building is not listed with the panels being set back from the edges of the roof.
“The buildings are contemporary, and so the addition of solar panels is not inappropriate, and will not be incongruous or intrusive,” said the planning application.
Public comments are invited on the application using the planning reference P/PASO/2025/06451 on the Dorset Council website.
