Up to £100,000 will be spent by Dorchester Town Council filling two positions – one for a new Town Clerk, the council’s chief executive.
The authority is also advertising for an officer to run the town’s markets when it takes over from Ensors in April, combining the job with a public relations role.
The Town Clerk position, currently occupied by Steve Newman, is being advertised at a salary of between £64,370 and £72,300 for a 37-hour week with some weekend and evening commitments.
Said the council advert’ for the position: “As Town Clerk, you will be the Council’s most senior officer and its Proper Officer, providing strategic leadership, strong governance and clear professional advice to councillors. You will guide delivery of the Corporate Plan, support effective decision‑making and ensure the Council operates with integrity, transparency and sound financial management.
“You will lead a committed team delivering a wide range of services including parks, open spaces, cemeteries, allotments, markets, community buildings, events and civic and ceremonial functions and promote the town’s heritage. Working closely with the Responsible Financial Officer, you will oversee budgets, reserves, contracts and long‑term financial planning. You will also act as a visible ambassador for Dorchester, building strong relationships with residents, partners and regional bodies.”
The other position, of markets and communications officer, is new to the council and will offer a salary in the range of £28,140 to £30,000.
Said the job advert’ : “The Council is inviting applications for the permanent, full-time post of Markets & Communications Officer, to play a key role in the management and development of Dorchester’s markets and the Council’s wider communications activities.”
The closing date for the markets and communications job is February 22nd with the Town Clerk application deadline on March 1st.
