SEN specialist SWRAC to host Open Day in Dorchester this month

A specialist education provider recently praised by Ofsted for “removing the barriers” facing students with SEND – is throwing its doors open to prospective new students, parents, and sector professionals this month.

SWRAC will host an Open Day at its Whitfield Rural Education Centre in Roman Road, Dorchester on Wednesday 18th February from 10am-2pm.

The college which occupies a four-acre site just one mile from the centre of Dorchester, provides young people with skills for life and work, and a range of opportunities for practical activities such as animal care, horticulture, rural and estate skills.

CEO Adrian Gunner said: “SWRAC currently supports 176 learners across our bespoke Preparation for Life and Preparation for Work courses and through successful local supported internships with companies including Amazon and Asda.

“Following the success of our first Open Day in 2025, we wanted to welcome parents and carers in our sector who are looking at post-16 options for September 2026 and beyond.

“Professionals in our sector who are looking to make future referrals or recommendations to young people, parents and carers regarding suitable settings are also welcome to attend.

“The Open Day will give visitors the chance to meet staff, have a look around our stunning centre and grounds and get a taste of why Ofsted recently praised our nurturing and highly inclusive culture.”

Nearly all SWRAC learners have a special educational need and/or disability and have previously disengaged from education without attaining basic maths and English qualifications.

Most have an EHCP (Educational, Health and Care Plan), although SWRAC does offer a limited number of places for 16-18-year-olds with no EHCP who can demonstrate they will engage and attend.
