Other sports news:

Portland United took the notable scalp of the Wessex Premier League Champions AFC Stoneham at Grove Corner on Saturday beating their visitors by 2 goals to 1, Remus Nixon and Patrick Jenkins scoring the Blues goals.

South West Peninsular League East high flyers Bridport put their hosts Bishops Lydeard to the sword scoring 5 goals with no reply from the Taunton based outfit.

Solomon Ayunga banked a hattrick for the Bees, with 2 more goals courtesy of Alec Thomas and Kieran Daniels.

However it was a disastrous day for our 2 Southern Premier League clubs, Weymouth and Dorchester who both lost heavily.

The Magpies went down by 5 goals to nil at home against Gloucester City and the Terras lost out by 4 goals to nil away against Hanwell Town leaving both clubs in the league relegation zone with only 2 matches remaining to avoid dropping out of the division. A very tall order indeed for both teams.

Above, it would not be possible to play rugby without referees who give up their free time so that others can play the game they love and Weymouth based referee Ken Pipe is still adjudicating well into his 70’s
