Free money coaching course to help people with finances

A local church is offering free money coaching to help people manage their finances.

Dorchester Baptist Church is holding a three-hour Christians Against Poverty (CAP) course on Saturday 19 September at the Dorford Centre, running from 9.30am-12.30pm.

Course participants will learn how to put a budget together, with tips on how to make money go further and how to be disciplined about spending.

The course comes at a time when the cost of living continues to affect many Dorset residents. Despite inflation easing from the 2022 peak, UK households continue to experience high costs. Spending power has been eroded over the past five years, with £100 in 2020 now buying only £78.54 worth of goods at 2020 prices, a 21.5% loss in purchasing power. (Source: Salarywise)

Food prices remain 12–18% higher than in 2023, and energy bills for a typical dual-fuel household are capped at £1,862 per year for July–September 2026. In April 2026, 79% of adults reported an increase in their cost of living, with 92% citing food price rises and 80% citing fuel costs (Source: House of Commons library)

Dorchester Poverty Action and Dorchester Foodbank are backing these courses by offering a £20 Co-op voucher to participants who live in DT1/DT2 postcodes. The courses are run by Dorchester Baptist Church using material created by Christians Against Poverty
