Weekend Sports Preview

The world’s best Olympic windsurfers are heading to Weymouth & Portland for the Musto iQFOil World Championship for a high-speed showdown on one of world sailing’s most iconic stages.

Expect epic, head-to-head battles featuring Olympic medallists, World Champions and rising stars – all at speeds of up to 35kts (65kph) and set against the dramatic backdrop of Dorset’s Jurassic Coast.

From 7-12 September, windsurfers will race off Weymouth and Portland, with the medal day on 12 September coming alive in Weymouth with a dedicated Fan Zone.

Weymouth harbourside event village, right outside Weymouth Pavilion, will come alive with the championship Fan Zone on Saturday, bringing the best of the racing and medal ceremonies alongside opportunities to try out windsurfing, dinghy sailing, keelboat sailing and accessible boat trips for free.

Saturday 12 September, 10.00am – 6.00pm (racing starts at midday), Weymouth Pavilion.

Weymouth Water Fest will be held alongside the Fan Zone, offering a range of activities, including taster sessions in sea swimming, kayaking, and paddle-boarding, alongside beach yoga, a mobile sauna, and children’s activities such as sandcastle building and arts and crafts.

Three of our local senior Non-League Football Clubs are involved in FA Cup First Qualifying Round action on Saturday, all away from home.

Dorchester visit Brixham; Weymouth travel to play Bath City, and Portland United have been paired with AFC Portchester away.

Bridport take the road into Devon to play Newton Abbot Spurs for a Southwest Peninsular League East fixture.

Sunday Women’s Football:

Bridport vs Sherborne Development. Dorchester vs Bournemouth Manor & Longfleet vs Weymouth.

Women’s FA Cup:

Wells City Ladies vs Ridgeway.

Local Dorset Cricket League Fixtures:

ChalkValley vs Dorchester. Martinstown vs Sherborne, Wimborne vs Bere Regis, Poole Town vs Blandford & Weymouth vs Christchurch.
