Dorchester Sports Centre, on Coburg Road is planning to re-open the gym and swimming pool to customers, in line with government guidelines following almost 4 long months.
Dorchester Sports Centre started its first phase of reopening last Monday (March 29) with a hugely successful reopening of its outdoor pitches. Attracting almost 80% of previous clubs and bookings, including Dorchester Town Football Club. The Gym, Pool and Junior Swim lessons will reopen on April 12.
Although Indoor group exercise classes are not able to resume until 17th May, Dorchester Sports Centre are offering a weekly wellbeing walk on Friday mornings for customers to join. As well as the option for individual members the option to book a bike on their own within their immersive “Group Cycle Studio” and follow pre made instructor workouts. The interactive TV and lights can be set for the person to enjoy.
As the centre gets ready to reopen its doors, staff have already seen a huge amount of interest and demand from people wanting to sign up, especially within its hugely popular learn to swim programme, having signed an additional 50 new swimmers in just the last two days.
General Manager Wayne Long said – “The last 12 months has been difficult for the leisure industry, but Dorchester Sports Centre plays a vital role in helping to improve the health and wellbeing of people in the area. We can’t wait to be able to reopen our doors.”

The staff at Dorchester Sports Centre are now busy getting the centre ready to reopen following the governments announcement on Monday, and implementing all the necessary changes to ensure customers and staff are safe. This includes sanitising stations, enhanced cleaning procedures, one way systems, comprehensive staff training, amended pool and gym capacities and timetable, and plastic shield installation between machines in the gym.
