Commonwealth Day is celebrated in Dorchester

The annual Commonwealth Day ceremony has taken place at the memorial area outside County Hall, Dorchester, on 11th March. Prayers were offered by the Revd Cora Yarrien. Speeches were given by Cllr Val Pothecary, Chair of Dorset Council, who read the Commonwealth Affirmation, Mr Angus Campbell, Lord-Lieutenant of Dorset, who read a message from HM King Charles and the High Sheriff of Dorset Mr Colin Weston MBE JP who read a message from the Rt Hon Patricia Scotland, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth. As well as the above, also attending the ceremony were: CSM Oliver Frowd, Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadet, Cllr Alistair Chisholm and Ms Kate Hebditch, Mayor & Mayoress of Dorchester, Mr Matt Prosser, Chief Executive, Dorset Council, St Mary’s Primary School Children – Year 3 and Mr Fred Slade, Bugler Durnovaria Silver Band and Mrs Slade.
