Assurances over drink sales and tackling litter have been given by the operator of a Weymouth beach kiosk during an application for a drinks licence.
Sara Hall, from Wintertime Events Ltd, told a licensing panel in Dorchester that the kiosk, on the beach opposite Marks and Spencer, would be properly run and supervised.
She was responding to a public objection to the licence which raised concerns about the use of CCTV, selling alcohol on the beach close to where children would be playing, and litter from the kiosk.
Mrs Hall, who said she had spent 20 years working in the licensed trade, nine of them holding a personal licence, said all the rules and regulations would be strictly adhered to with younger staff always supervised by someone who held a personal licence.
She said the cameras would only focus on the kiosk itself, which would only be open and selling alcohol during limited hours in the summer months.
In response to a question she told the hearing that she believer her kiosk would be the only one with bins on the outside and said that customers would be encourage to recycle.
“I absolutely love Weymouth and take pride – I like it tidy…I cannot stand litter,” she said.
The application for a Premises Licence asks for daily drink sales from 10am until 10.30pm with a half hour earlier start on Saturdays and closing half an hour earlier on Sundays – although from July 1 until September 2 a start time of 9am every day is being requested.
The licensing application for the kiosk, which is offered by Weymouth Town Council, says the business has no plans for music or other entertainment and staff and customers will be monitored by closed circuit tv with fire fighting equipment kept on the site, which will also have disabled access.
A decision on the application will be announced next week.
