Weekend Sports Preview

Weymouth Football Club’s Southern Premier League survival will be decided on Saturday at Berkhamstead.

Last week’s win against Chertsey lifted Weymouth out of the relegation zone after Evesham’s defeat at the hands of Gosport with just one game remaining. That means a victory at Berkhamsted on the final day of the season will ensure the Terras avoid the drop, but anything less would give Evesham the opportunity to reverse places and Weymouth would be relegated.

Speaking after the Chertsey game Terras’ manager Jamie Wells declared himself,  “really happy … today we put all of our chances to bed and come out with a great result at the end of it … the team was superb, every one of them today”. Looking ahead to the final game of the season at Berkhamstead, he added, “as long as it’s in our hands, we give ourselves every chance of staying up”.

Already Relegated Dorchester host Sholing at the Avenue Stadium.

Portland United host Laverstock & Ford at Grove Corner on Saturday in the Wessex Premier League Play Off Final after beating Andover New Street two nil in Wednesday’s semi.

Bridport will end their successful season as Southwest Peninsular League East runners up behind league Champions Bovey Tracey, but there are no play offs as only one team can be promoted.
