Illegal parking warning from council leader

by Trevor Bevins, Local Democracy Reporter.

“Don’t park illegally  – we’ll get you” – the stark warning from Dorset Council leader Nick Ireland.

Speaking on video after Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting he said that one of the changes to parking services at County Hall will be more parking wardens in the county – equipped with new devices.

“If you are out there parking illegally – we’ll get you,” said the council leader.
He also referred to a wider parking review due to take place later in the year which, he predicted, was likely to be exciting because  he knew people got ‘wound up’ about parking issues.

Changes to parking charges led to one of the biggest petitions that Dorset Council has ever seen when more than 7,500 Weymouth residents objected in the summer of 2023 to higher charges at most town centre car parks – leading to the council making changes to continue winter parking rates at the Swannery car park, rather than switching at the start of the season to the higher summer rates.
