Traffic disruption at Monkton Park in Dorchester and Portland Beach Road is expected to ease, with emergency works due to finish and revised traffic arrangements now in place.
Dorset Council understands how frustrating the recent delays on the A354 have been, particularly for people travelling between Weymouth, Portland and Dorchester.
At Monkton Park, SSEN has been carrying out emergency electricity repairs following a power cut in the Dorchester area. We have been working closely with SSEN to help minimise disruption and support the completion of the work as quickly as possible.
The temporary signals are operating as two-way lights and are being manually controlled during the day to help keep traffic moving.
SSEN has been working extended hours and expects to complete the emergency repairs over the weekend. The temporary traffic management is expected to be removed by midday on Monday 5 October, when traffic should return to normal.
At Portland Beach Road, we required changes to the traffic management following significant delays earlier this week. Traffic is now able to flow normally for most of the time, with the signals used only when needed for construction vehicles or pedestrians.
We do not expect a repeat of the earlier significant delays under the current arrangements. We are also working with the developer to look at alternative arrangements for any further lane closures needed for water connections or resurfacing.
While neither set of works is being carried out by Dorset Council, we are continuing to monitor both locations and work closely with those responsible to keep disruption to a minimum.
We thank motorists for their patience and strongly recommend they check traffic online before setting off on any journeys through the affected areas.
