Beach booze kiosk

by Trevor Bevins, Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Booze sales could be allowed on Weymouth beach with an application for a new licence for a kiosk on the sands opposite Marks & Spencer.

Wintertime Events Ltd has applied for on and off the premises alcohol sales for a site on the beach let by Weymouth Town Council.

An application for a Premises Licence to Dorset Council asks for drink sales from 10am until 10.30pm with a half hour earlier start on Saturdays and closing half an hour earlier on Sundays – although from July 1st to September 2nd a start time of 9am every day is being requested.

The proposed licence holder for the plot, kiosk SC4, is listed in the application as Mrs Sara Hall who holds a personal licence issued by Bolsover District Council. Mrs Hall, (45), has been listed as a director of Winterime Events Ltd along with fellow director, Ernest Hall, since 2019. The company address is in Selston, Nottingham and notes its business as “amusement and recreational activities.”

The licensing application says the business has no plans for music or other entertainment and staff and customers will be monitored by closed circuit tv with fire fighting equipment kept on the site, which will also have disabled access.

Public comments on the application (Ref 164500) remain open until February 13th.
