Weekend Sports Preview

Weymouth Football Club has announced the return of Steve Claridge as First Team Manager following the departure of Warren Feeney.

A statement issued by the club reads “Weymouth Football Club are pleased to announce that Steve Claridge has agreed terms to become First Team Manager with immediate effect.

Following what has been a challenging period for everyone at the club, the Board acted swiftly to ensure stability and continuity ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup Preliminary Round tie away to Tadley Calleva. Steve will take charge of the team for that fixture. ”

Claridge played for the Terras for three years in the 80s – making 110 appearances scoring 48 goals– then after taking up the position of player-manager in July 2003 he raised the club out of the relegation zone to the brink of promotion into the Conference in the 2003/04 season.

However, Claridge’s time at the club was terminated following the resignation of the chairman Ian Ridley in October 2004 and the appointment of new chairman Martyn Harrison.

Following the resignation of Weymouth Club Chairman Paul Maitland on Tuesday director Ralph Ricardo has stepped in as interim chairman.
