Weymouth’s new manager Steve Claridge made his Southern Premier League home debut at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday against Hanwell Town and although neither side could manage to break the deadlock the former Portsmouth, Leicester and Millwall man must have left the field in a much better state of mind than he did last Saturday at Tadley where his team crashed out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle.
Claridge had been busy during the week culling three of his squad and bringing in Brooklyn Genesini from Dorchester and on loan from Coventry City David Mantel.

Terras’ manager Steve Claridge issues his instructions to the players before the kick off.
Coventry loanee David Mantel also caught the eye of the Terras’ fans, one writing on FB, “Can we have him until the end of the season”.
To be fair to the players of both sides the strong wind blowing from south to north down the ground didn’t help with their passing accuracy, the ball frequently running out of play but, the performance of the Weymouth squad was a 100% improvement to what they dished up for their travelling fans last weekend in Tadley.
In the same division Dorchester travelled to play Gloucester City and failed to break their duck losing the game 2-nil.
In the Wessex Premier League Portland United hosted Brockenhurst at Grove Corner and sent the Hampshire club back home on the wrong end of a 2 –nil scoreline.
Greg Borthwick and Remus Nixon scoring the Blues goals.
Bridport put their Southwest Peninsular League East hosts Teignmouth to the sword winning the game by 7 goals to nil.
Sam Fisher and Sol Ayunga both netted hat tricks for the Bees’ with Taiwo Emmanual also scoring.
In the local Tribute Rugby Leagues Swanage & Wareham won a close fought Southern Counties League encounter at Devizes by 44 points to 41 while in a Tribute Dorset & Wilts fixture Weymouth played Bridport at Brewery Field and suffered a humbling 68 point to 7 defeat.
In the same division the Swans’ second team were beaten at home by Wheatsheaf Cabin Crew by 26 points to 17 and the Villagers of Puddletown produced the result of the day travelling to Yeovil and returning the Greenfields with 31 points to 15 victory in the bank.
On Sunday Weymouth Football Club’s women’s team beat Frome women away by 4 goals to nil, Evie Scragg, Ellia Webb, Emma Potter and Annie Redding scoring the Terras’ Ladies goals, and Bridport’s Ladies lost 2-1 at home against Wellington ladies.
