Detectives investigating a report of rape in Weymouth town centre have made an arrest.
Dorset Police received a report at 2.44am on Thursday 18 June 2026 that a man had raped a woman aged in her 20s, with the incident reported to have occurred at around between 2am and 2.30am in Clifton Place.
A full investigation was launched into the incident, led by detectives from Dorset County CID, and specially-trained officers are continuing to support the victim.
Following detailed enquiries, a man aged in his 20s from Poundbury has been arrested on suspicion of rape and is currently in police custody.
Detective Chief Inspector George Graham, of Dorset County CID, said: “This has been a fast-paced investigation and as a result of our detailed enquiries, a suspect has now been arrested on suspicion of rape.
“We are continuing to support the victim and she is being kept updated with developments in the investigation.
“We are continuing to appeal for any witnesses, or anyone who may have captured relevant dashcam, home CCTV or doorbell camera footage, to please come forward.
“I appreciate incidents of this nature may cause concern for the local community and officers can be approached by anyone with information or concerns.”
