Poundbury Self Guided Walking Leaflet launched to Celebrate the Official Birthday of HRH King Charles III

The Dorchester Tourism Partnership, led by Dorchester Town Council, has unveiled a brand new, free self guided walking leaflet showcasing Poundbury’s architecture and design — released to coincide with the official birthday of HRH King Charles III on Saturday 13 June.

The new trail invites residents and visitors to explore the visionary urban development created under His Majesty’s guidance and long standing commitment to sustainable, community focused design.

The walking route highlights 10 distinct architectural styles found throughout Poundbury, demonstrating the rich blend of traditional and contemporary influences that have shaped the development’s character.

Walkers will also discover the stories behind many of Poundbury’s most intriguing road names, each chosen with purpose and often linked to local heritage, historical figures, or themes linked to the Royal Family.

A dedicated “Did You Know?” section within the leaflet tackles some of the most common myths surrounding Poundbury. From sustainability principles to design philosophies, the leaflet provides fresh insight into what makes Poundbury one of the UK’s most talked about urban developments.

The new walking guide is designed to be accessible, informative, and enjoyable for all ages — whether visitors are discovering Poundbury for the first time or locals are looking to see their community from a new perspective.

The route wakes 1.5 hours to complete and the whole route is wheelchair friendly.
Dorchester Mayor Cllr Les Fry BEM said “Poundbury is a unique part of Dorchester, and it is wonderful to have this new walking leaflet that celebrates everything Poundbury has to offer. The leaflet compliments the existing Dorchester on foot leaflet which has a series of self-guided walks around the town centre and around the outskirts of Dorchester. Whilst following the walk round Poundbury take the opportunity to visit one of the many brilliant independent cafes and shops you see along the way.”

The digital leaflet is available to download from www.discoverdorchester.co.uk now and physical leaflet will available to pick up free of charge from Tourist Information Points at Dorchester Corn Exchange and Shire Hall Museum, plus participating local outlets across Poundbury, from Monday.
